[Source: Angela Gonzalez, The Phoenix Business Journal] – Phoenix-based Translational Genomics Research Institute is partnering with a similarly young research organization in Michigan, giving TGen a financial boost that will allow the nonprofit to recruit more scientists.

In this alliance with the Van Andel Research Institute in Grand Rapids, Mich., TGen President and Scientific Director Jeffrey Trent will replace George Vande Woude, founding director of the Michigan institute. He will retain his role at TGen, and will become president and research director of the Van Andel Research Institute.

Trent wouldn’t disclose exactly how much money TGen gets out of the deal, but says it’s enough to grow TGen’s work force by about 15 percent over the next three years. TGen employs about 300 people.
