[Source: Jack Central] – The National Cancer Society awarded $8.9 million to researchers at NAU and UA looking into disparities in cancer rates among Native Americans compared to the general population.

The grant, which both schools won as part of a collaborative effort on the part of researchers here on campus and at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson, focuses on three areas: training, research and outreach.

Laura Huenneke, the vice president for research at NAU, said the grant stands as one of the most important awards the university has ever received.
