Joanna Yang Yowler joined the Flinn Foundation in August 2024 as Program Manager, Translational Biosciences and Entrepreneurship. She has built a career nurturing inquiry and innovation in scientists and engineers of all ages.
Before joining Flinn, Joanna spent 10 years developing community-based research partnerships in health and education at Mayo Clinic in partnership with InSciEd Out Foundation. Through multiple positions, including Director of K-12 Programs, she advanced dual research passions in youth mental wellbeing and inquiry-driven science education. After leaving Mayo, Joanna directed the Tenderloin Science Project for R&D Impact Foundation—building pathways to STEM for K-12 youth in San Francisco through place-based learning.
Joanna earned her doctorate in biomedical sciences from Mayo Clinic’s Clinical and Translational Sciences program. As a Flinn Scholar, she graduated with a bachelor’s in biological sciences from Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. In her spare time, Joanna works with Fremont-based college counseling firm ReadyEdgeGo on initiatives for democratizing access to higher education. She also continues her InSciEd Out affiliations to advance the practice of science in education.
