Mandy Tripoli has been with the city for 13 years in various positions within the Mesa Arts Center.  As executive director, she’ll oversee programming and operations, including Performing Live, Art Studios, Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, festivals and engagement and education programming.

The city of Tempe continues its commitment to grow local arts education in 2024 by increasing funding for this year’s Arts in Schools grants.  These grants provide funds to fine arts teachers that can be used to work with professional artists and purchase equipment.

Puscifer the Store is moving to Old Town Cottonwood from Jerome. The new multi-building facility opens Wednesday, Oct. 23, as the Queen B Vinyl Café. It’s owned by Tool lead singer Maynard James Keenan and Jennifer Keenan, his wife. The café will hold a week of grand opening events includes comedy, a book signing, musical performances and a gospel brunch.

The Museum of Northern Arizona, in collaboration with Northern Arizona University, offered an opportunity for Flagstaff citizens to learn about botany and the identification of plants during Snook’s Science in the Park last month.  Visitors learned about distinguishing plant characteristics as well as how artificial intelligence programs classified plants with botanists’ findings.

Colombia-born Lina Gonzalez-Granados was the first Hispanic woman to conduct the Phoenix Symphony’s season opener on Oct. 4-6. Gonzalez-Granados’ dream to make music has taken her around the world and now brings her to the Valley. She is also the resident conductor at the LA Opera.

The Phoenix Zoo allowed the public to choose the names of the two male lion cubs born on June 3, and the votes are in.  The cubs both males, are named Jasiri and Azizi.


Walt Anderson receives 2024 Combes Award / Artists for Conservation

Walt Anderson of Prescott is being awarded with the Simon Combes Conservation Artist Award with its highest honor.  Walt’s lifelong dedication to conservation, artistic mastery and sharing of his scientific knowledge earned him this prestigious award.
