The Class of 2025 Flinn Scholarship application is closed.
Does your dream of college include the opportunity to travel abroad, conduct research, and pursue creative expression? The flexibility to explore different fields and majors? The support to pursue internships and volunteer experiences? A talented, welcoming, and driven community of friends to share the journey? Becoming a Flinn Scholar means having all this—and the ability to earn a full ride from one of Arizona’s public universities.
In scope and value, the Flinn Scholarship is unlike almost any other undergraduate merit-based scholarship in the United States. The scholarship—valued at more than $135,000—covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or the University of Arizona, plus study abroad.

- Three essay prompts (Class of 2025 application essays);
- One academic/teacher recommendation, submitted separately by a high-school teacher;
- One leadership/service recommendation, submitted separately by a teacher, professor, coach, employer, or community member;
- A copy of your transcript and school profile, uploaded by your high school academic counselor on the counselor report; and
- A copy of ACT or SAT scores (minimum test score of 26 on the ACT or 1230 on the SAT was required for the Class of 2025). The Flinn Scholarship accepts a superscore.
Application Tips
Criteria such as grade-point average and class rank play a part in the Flinn Scholarship selection process, but they are not the sole basis for our decisions.
We evaluate a student’s academic achievement, leadership and involvement, service to the community, ability to communicate, and personal characteristics. Each factor is an important part of the holistic picture that you present to us.

A Community of Ideas, Respect, and Engagement
The Flinn Scholars Program values the exchange of ideas, the consideration of diverse perspectives, and meaningful engagement with complex issues. A hallmark of the program is fostering thoughtful dialogue—where Scholars are encouraged to bring their unique viewpoints while also embracing respect, civility, and the opportunity to build relationships across different perspectives.
Scholars are not expected to abandon their beliefs, but they are challenged to broaden their understanding by seeing issues through others’ eyes. There is no single “Flinn Scholars position” on any issue, and while Scholars are welcome to share their experiences and perspectives in public and private forums, they should take care to clarify that they are speaking as individuals, not on behalf of the program or the entire Flinn Scholars community.
