New publications that spotlight Arizona’s biotech and technology industries were introduced last week by Business Journal and Arizona Technology Council.

The Business Journal launched “Arizona Biotech,” a quarterly insert that focuses on the development of Arizona’s biosciences/biotech industry. The initial 16-page supplement includes articles on the state’s recent progress, tech transfer, issues facing biotech startups, the International Genomics Consortium (IGC), profiles of scientists, and a column by Jeffrey Trent, president and scientific director of the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). Editions are scheduled throughout 2004.

The Flinn Foundation, IGC, and TGen are sponsoring the section.

Two events are planned as part of the effort: a roundtable with key players in the bio community and a year-end event focusing on 2004 progress and next steps.

Also launched was TechConnect, Arizona’s only magazine that exclusively covers the state’s technology industry. The magazine is published by Arizona Technology Council, Arizona Department of Commerce, and Southern Arizona Tech Council.

TechConnect will be published three times a year, and is packaged with editions of the Business Journal, bizAZ, East Valley Tribune, and Inside Tucson Business.

The premier edition includes a feature article on the Governor’s Council on Innovation and Technology, plus stories on bioscience progress, developments at the Capitol, and a variety of additional one-page features.
