Infections in burn wound healing

[Source: MIHS] – After initial resuscitation, infection is the most common cause of death in burn victims. As protective skin layers are destroyed and the overall immune system weakened, harmful bacteria can colonize the surface of burn wounds. Antimicrobials normally kill the growth of harmful bacteria; however, they are not always able to protect severe burn wounds from colonization by these bacteria.
