[Source: GenomeWeb News] – The Translational Genomics Research Institute today said that it has received a gift of $685,236 from the supermarket chain Safeway for its breast cancer research programs.

TGen said that the award was over one-third more than the $500,000 it received from Safeway last year.

The grocery store chain raised the money through a month-long campaign at its stores throughout Arizona in October 2008.

“This donation will be put to immediate use to help develop treatments and, eventually, find a cure for breast cancer, a major priority for us at TGen and a goal that would benefit everyone,” TGen President and Scientific Director Jeffrey Trent said in a statement.
