Sustained development of a center for genetics and genomics focusing on preventing and controlling Clostridium difficile in clinical settings. The grant would help NAU build on progress consolidating existing strengths and develop new tools in the study of pathogens and C. difficile in particular, in order to support a growing base of collaborations with health systems, hospitals, and clinicians. Under this grant, researchers aim to validate a newer protocol for testing C. difficile samples that they believe can radically improve medical centers’ infection control. Besides offering greater diagnostic efficiency, the new protocol holds promise to mitigate antimicrobial resistance by better informing antimicrobial selection.
