ASU launches Center for Nanotechnology in Society

Arizona State University officials have officially launched the Center for Nanotechnology in Society, one of only two federally funded centers in the country studying the ethical implications of nanotechnology research. Last fall, the National Science Foundation awarded ASU $6.2 million to establish CNS.

Shelton named next UA president

Robert Shelton, the executive vice chancellor and provost at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been selected to replace Peter Likins as president of University of Arizona. Shelton will take over for Likins on July 1, 2006, one year before UA is set to welcome the first class to the College of Medicine campus in Phoenix.

Governor proposes innovation fund for science, technology

Gov. Janet Napolitano announced at her 2006 State of the State address the creation of a public-private partnership to boost Arizona's science and technology sectors, including the biosciences. Napolitano requested $25 million in state dollars in her FY 2007 budget to fund the effort.
