[Source: ] – Economic forces that crippled venture-capital investments during the past year did not dampen turnout Thursday at Invest Southwest in Scottsdale.

The annual investment conference drew 315 registered attendees, the highest number in the event’s 17-year history, organizer Terree Wasley said.

The event’s chief goal is to help local startups grow by landing financing to develop and market their products and hire employees. Despite the drop in venture-capital activity this year, the conference provides a forum for companies to strike up relationships with prospective investors that could bear fruit in the future.
